How the Free Roofing Line Works

An automated assistant answers at any hour, asks a few questions, and puts you through to an independent, locally owned roofing company. Here is each step, and what the line does not do.

Four steps from your call to a roofer

The line exists for one job: getting your call answered and in front of a local roofing company, quickly and at no cost to you.

  1. Call the numberAn automated assistant answers (832) 662-4107 at any hour and asks which service you need, since the line also takes heating, cooling, pressure washing and water damage calls.
  2. Describe the roofA leak, missing shingles, hail, a limb on the roof or an old roof you want looked at, plus your part of greater Houston and how urgent it is.
  3. Get put throughYour call is transferred to an independent, locally owned roofing company, which hears a short summary before it picks up.
  4. Deal with the roofer directlyIt inspects, quotes and does the work, and you pay it (or your insurer does, as you arrange). If it misses the call, it gets your name, number, city and need to call you back.

What to have ready when you call

Where you are

Your city or ZIP code, and whether you are inside city limits if you know it. Permit and windstorm rules depend on it, and it decides which local company takes the call.

What you see

A drip, a ceiling stain, shingles in the yard, dented gutters, a limb on the roof, or simply an older roof you want looked at. Say whether water is coming in right now.

Your paperwork

If a storm caused it, your insurance policy and claim number if you have one. Photos you took from the ground and inside the house help the roofer understand the job.

What the line does not do

Not part of the line

  • Climb on, inspect or photograph roofs
  • Quote prices or compare estimates
  • Repair, replace or tarp anything
  • File, handle or advise on insurance claims
  • Vet, license, rate or insure roofing companies
  • Charge you anything

The roofing company's job

  • Coming out and inspecting the roof
  • Explaining what it found, ideally with photos
  • Giving you its own written estimate
  • Pulling any permit and doing the work
  • Its workmanship warranty and its bill to you
  • Documenting damage for your insurer if you ask

You are free to say no to any estimate, to get other quotes, or to hire someone you found another way. Calling the line does not commit you to anything.

After the call: habits that protect you

The line puts you in touch with a roofer; it cannot stand behind that roofer's work. These habits protect you with any company:

  1. Get it in writing. The scope, materials, decking price per sheet, permit, start date, payment schedule and workmanship warranty.
  2. Pay as the work happens. A deposit is common; most of the price up front is not.
  3. Keep the claim yours. You file it with your insurer. A roofer can document damage and meet the adjuster, but it may not act as your public adjuster.
  4. Pay your own deductible. Texas law makes it illegal for a contractor to waive, rebate or absorb it.

The deductible is yours to pay. The Texas Department of Insurance says it is illegal for a contractor to offer to waive, rebate or absorb your deductible, and a contract of $1,000 or more paid with insurance money must include a notice saying so. A roofer also may not act as your public adjuster on a property it works on. Treat any offer to "cover the deductible" as a reason to call someone else.

Texas has no state roofing license. No state agency licenses roofing contractors in Texas, and a 2025 bill to create one (HB 3344) did not reach a vote of the full House before the session ended. So check what you can: a certificate of liability insurance sent to you, a written contract with the full scope, a permit where your city requires one, local addresses you can drive past, and the shingle maker's warranty registration. Some cities also ask roofers to register. The line does not check any of this for you. How to check a roofer before you hire.

About this line: Houston Expert Roofers is a free phone line, not a roofing contractor. It answers your call and connects you with an independent local roofing company, which inspects, quotes and does the work, and which you pay directly. Companies may pay a referral fee. The line never charges you. Read how the line works.

Questions Houston homeowners ask

Who answers when I call?

An automated assistant, at any hour. The number is shared with air conditioning and heating, pressure washing and water damage calls, so it first asks which service you need, then briefly what is going on with the roof, where you are and how urgent it is. It then transfers you to a local roofing company.

What if the roofing company does not pick up?

Your name, callback number, city, what you need and how urgent it is are taken down and sent on to that roofer for a return call. When it calls back depends on that company and on the weather; after a big storm every roofer in the region is busy. If water is coming in, see emergency roof repair for the safe steps in the meantime.

How does the line make money if calling is free?

Roofing companies may pay Houston Expert Roofers a referral fee for the calls it connects. You never pay the line anything, and the fee does not appear on your bill from the line because there is no bill. Ask the roofing company for its written estimate and compare it with others if you like; you are never obliged to hire it.

Will the line check the roofer's license or insurance for me?

No. Texas has no state roofing license, and the line does not vet, rate or insure any company. Ask the roofer for a certificate of insurance sent to you, a written contract and local references before you hire. The guide do roofers need a license in Texas lists what to check.
